There are moments in our human existence when we share something with someone so precious, honest, and revealing of self… that it can leave us both relieved and terrified simultaneously.

The relief comes in the release of finally naming what we’ve held close. The terror comes at the thought that the one you revealed it to… might mishandle it, might share it, and might judge it. None of us want to be judged… especially in our most vulnerable moments. That’s why it is such a gift when we walk in relationship with the true holders of our humanity.

But life has taught me that sometimes the dual journey drifts into solo journeys. Rafts that once traveled side by side are carried by different currents. And when that happens, I often wonder:

Will you still hold my humanity?
