If I were to explain to my Grandfather what’s going on in my life currently, I can hear him saying back to me: “That’s just life,” while removing his readers from the bridge of his nose, his hand slightly trembling, as he sits them on the tray next to his recliner. I can see it like it was yesterday… yet, couldn’t understand his quote in that time.

Now, decades later, I understand it more in this era of life, knowing that his words will keep expanding as it travels with me through different era’s of my existence here.

At 82 years of age, my Granddad had seen and experienced so much life beyond my understanding, that his three word statement encompassed more than my 20 year old brain could compute. At that age, my idea of life was limitless in realms with limits, while being matured to prepare for the grit it takes to take on the realms where life is valued.

For in the realm that holds life’s value, your maturity is consistently measured. Sacrifice is endured. Acceptance is attained. It is your responsibility to graduate from pupil to sensei, as training is over and you must sail uncharted waters. LOVE is always the mission in this realm.

And real LOVE is the daily crucifixion of self.

It’s a pouring out of self to meet others where they’re in need because you’re called to do so… and most importantly, you can do it! It’s a realm where you welcome the reward of being last, due to your service to others. It’s a realm where you make sure everyone is taken care of before you take a seat. It’s a realm where you listen to everyone’s emotions (even when they trample over yours) because you care enough to get context… because LOVE is always the mission.
